My expertise includes:
- writing and editing for websites, industry guides, public consultation documents, newsletters, annual reports, business submissions, academic papers and more.
- financial reporting for the likes of National Business Review, The Dominion Post and investment news website Good Returns.
- public relations for ICI New Zealand, as an account director for Consultus, and on contract for other consultancies.
I have worked on a project basis with a host of organisations in addition to full-time work for news media outlets and communications firms, as outlined above.
Jobs and assignments include:
- Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment: contract writing, editing, resource development and communications work on projects including Building Act-related guidance, managing earthquake-prone buildings and the Canterbury rebuild.
- McNamara Research: media analytics and reporting for McNamara’s clients, which include top New Zealand corporate and government agencies.
- Agriculture Industry Training Organisation (now part of Primary ITO): developing a resource set, both print and online, to help its tutors teach new material on climate change.
- Capital & Coast District Health Board: working with its agency Marketing Impact to develop and write an interactive online recruitment magazine.
- The Dominion Post: employment as a business reporter for The Dominion (as it was known then) for several years. While there, I developed and wrote a weekly personal finance page.
- Medical Assurance Society: occasional articles for the company’s member magazine.
- Wellington Museums Trust: a ten-year relationship with this trust, which manages the City Gallery, Museum of Wellington City & Sea, Wellington Cable Car Museum and others. This included writing and producing annual reports and newsletters and developing the trust’s first website.
- Wellington Cable Car Museum: media and tourism-related work, research and writing new museum interpretation, and working with senior leadership to prepare successful entries for the NZ Tourism Industry Awards (which this boutique museum won two years in a row).
- National Business Review: employment as a financial reporter while this publication was based in Wellington.
- Good Returns: writing investment and mortgage-related articles for several years for this financial news website and its sister publication NZ Money Management.
- Counties Manukau DHB: editing an extensive report on the provision of mental health services.
- GS1: managing media relations for this technology and coding standards body, plus writing and editing its 24-page quarterly magazine SCAN for four years.
- Wellington Radiology: designing and writing referrer newsletters and surveys, and coordinating a quality systems manual for IANZ accreditation.
- New Zealand Herald: occasional articles for the business section (Saturday’s ‘big read’).
